Unisphere was founded in 2017 by Christoph Schlettig and Michael Anger, who previously served as Flight Directors of Solar Impulse -

the first solar-powered flight around the world. Based on the unique experience in operating electrically powered and semi-automated aircraft, Unisphere develops innovative solutions that support the flight operations of drones, air taxis, and high-altitude pseudo-satellites.

Today, we are a recognized company in the domain of unmanned and electrified aviation specializing in automated flight operations and technology-enabled approaches to managing operational and weather-related risks. Therefore, Unisphere has developed the Smart 4D Trajectory as a technological core that has been awarded the “German Mobility Price 2021” from the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport.

Our solutions and know-how are currently applied in a variety of use cases ranging from vertiports at ground level, over drones in the lower airspace up to the HAPS flying in the stratosphere.

HAPS- Stratosphäre

Our unique experience in operating aircraft with electric propulsion and lightweight construction is recently being utilized in a research project funded by the "Luftfahrtforschungsprogramm" of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Action. The aim is to define an operational concept - supported by flight simulations - for the safe integration of HAPS into the airspace during the ascent and descent phases in the stratosphere.

 

Urban Air Mobility

To ensure safe drone flights at scale, the digitalization of the airspace and automated air traffic management are key. We support the development of U-Space with its innovative simulation technology – enabling automated evaluation of weather conditions and supporting flight planning, de-confliction, and optimization of air traffic. Unisphere is part of the first implementation of a U-Space in Belgium as part of the public funded BURDI project.

 

Lower Airspace

With our solutions for automated flight operations, we are transferring pilot know-how and decision-making mechanisms into software. The technological capability to automate flight operations was recently advanced and validated in an ESA-supported project together with the leading drone operators Matternet & Nordic unmanned.

Vertiports

One critical element to make Urban Air Mobility a reality is the landing infrastructure – so-called Vertiports. Since eVTOLs are more sensitive to the impact of weather, it is important to consider the operational conditions when in the vertiport planning & design. Applying our technology to historic weather data provides relevant insights for these tasks and ensures data-driven decision-making.

Christoph is responsible for strategy, finance, legal, and sales. His aeronautical expertise and know-how of commercial flight operations also is a fundamental input to the software development. As an airline transport pilot, he is used to strategic thinking, contingencies, fall back options, tracking, and re-planning, which is essential in his domain.

Christoph is responsible for business development and marketing. He has a background in innovation management as a researcher and consultant for six years and uses this know-how to help our customers implement viable drone cases. With his consulting expertise he will support the growth of Unisphere.

Michael Anger
CTO

Michael is responsible for technological developments at Unisphere. He orchestrates the development of software services, interacts closely with our customers to satisfy their needs. His background in systems engineering and flight test is essential when coordinating software developments until deployment.
